Pain Management

Pain Management with Acupuncture / Acupressure

Holistic Health for Soul, Mind, & Body

The number one reason people turn to acupuncture for treatment is pain management. Research has shown acupuncture to be more effective in treating pain than using most Western (Allopathic) medical therapies including addictive drugs.

Acupuncture has several therapeutic modalities that help to eliminate pain. These include acupuncture with needles, acupressure, cupping, gua sha (also called scraping), tui na (a type of Chinese massage), electro-stimulation or e-stim (included Millicurrent and Microcurrent as well as Japanese ion pumping cords), application of heat with TDP lamps, moxibustion (in various forms) and related therapies. There are even Chinese herbal formulas for pain that can be added in severe as well as chronic pain cases. These herbs have no side affects, are not addictive and just as effective as most Western pharmaceutical drugs.

Pain can have many origins. At times we may recommend the addition of massage and/or chiropractic treatments in conjunction with acupuncture pain treatments. These treatments are available through other practitioners and are very synergistic with acupuncture to help patients recover faster.

At DBHC we have extensive experience for different types of pain: missing limbs, muscle atrophy, plantar fasciitis, peripheral Neuropathy, low back pain, neck and shoulder pain. joint pain, muscle pain, abdominal pain, emotional pain, etc.

Cupping may leave red to purple arks on the body. These marks usually go away after a few minutes to a few days depending on the severity of the stagnation at the site. At DBHC we use fire cupping.

Acupuncture Needles

Many peopl are afraid of acupuncture because they are neelde phobic. They have confused Syringe needles with acupuncture Filiform needles. A syringe takes something out or puts something into the body so is large with a center hole in the tube. Filiform needles have no such home in the middle and many are as thin as a human hair. There is no injection or removal of any material into or from the body. Generally they are a painless way to treat people.

Some people are needle sensitive. We have a way to treat even the most sensitive so that there is no pain or discomfort.

Cupping

Cupping is another treatment modality frequently used of pain and other uses. This became popularized during the summer olimpics in China a few years ago. IT is another way to remove stagnation in the body so that blood and lymph can flow freely to the body. Below are a few images of cupping. cupping example fire cupping
